Most Beautiful Places In The World

Manarola, Italy

For many, the town of Manarola is the quintessential Cinque Terre village. The charm of the five villages remains unspoiled, as does the allure of their surrounding countryside, which is a jumble of plunging cliffs, vineyards, olive groves, and steeply terraced slopes.

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

“The ‘lighting of the candle’ of the Grand Teton in Grand Teton National Park happens every day, yet some days are simply more astounding than others,” he says. “I was taking photos at dawn with amazing colors in the clouds, which would have made a photo of an iconic place such as this an astounding picture by itself, when the herd of bison wandered in between me and my camera. It captures the essence of Wyoming, my home for the last 30 years, in all its glory.”

Delicate Arch, Arches National Park

“I was at a night photography workshop last week at Arches National Park, and we spent the one clear night that we had at Delicate Arch,” says Thomas Piekunka, who submitted this photo to the 2014 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. “The inclusion of our instructor light-painting the arch adds a human element to this timeless scene that I think really draws in the viewer and gives the viewer a sense of that place and the scale of the arch.”

Budapest, Hungary

A visitor to Buda Castle takes a look over the Danube River to the Parliament building in the Pest section of the city. Straddling the wide river, which separates hilly Buda from level Pest, the Hungarian capital offers one of the most striking metropolitan panoramas in Europe.

A view from Buda Castle, of the Hungarian parliament across the Danube, that is typically crowded by tourists in the summer in Budapest, Hungary, Jan. 9, 2014. Budapest's character is revealed in the winter when temperatures, crowd counts and prices are low. Fireflies in Michigan

Your Shot community member Vincent Brady made this image of lightning bugs at twilight. “A stack of several hundred images as fireflies lit up this forest scene over several hours,” he writes. “Created in my hometown of Grand Ledge, Michigan, in July 2013, intended for a time-lapse video.”

Burnaby Mountain, Vancouver

“Took this photo super early in the morning at Cypress Mountain in north Vancouver,” writes Your Shot community member Shane Kalyn. “Underneath this blanket of mist lies the entire city of Vancouver. Rising from the fog on this beautiful morning are the Coast Mountains in the background, and Burnaby Mountain in the foreground. Visible on top is Simon Fraser University.”
