7 Ways to Protect the Eye Area From Signs of Aging

By arya

The skin around the eyes, also known as the eye contour, is one of the thinnest, most delicate membranes in the human body. It also lacks sebaceous glands, elastin fibers, and collagen. Each day, this area is constantly under the strain of 22 muscles in motion and 10,000 blinks.

Because of these reasons, the eye area is often the first part of the face to show different signs of aging, which include fine lines, deep wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles.

If you already notice these signs of aging in your eye area, you need to take the necessary steps to get rid of them immediately. These include getting the right anti-wrinkle, under-eye and dark circle removal treatment.

By getting the right dermatological treatment, you will look youthful and beautiful again. This will go a long way in enabling you to feel younger, more vibrant, and confident.

Taking Care of Your Eye Contour

Whether you are taking steps to erase the signs of aging away from your eye area or you want to keep them at bay for a long time, follow these tips for taking care of and protecting this delicate part of the face:

Be gentle when touching or handling the eye area

Since the skin around your eyes is extremely thin and delicate, you have to be extra careful and tender when applying and removing makeup and other skincare products.

When cleaning your face, put your eye makeup remover on a cotton pad. Press the pad gently onto the skin around each eye and drag it slowly in an outward motion. Repeat until the makeup is completely removed.

When applying eye cream, use only your pinky finger. Be gentle when spreading it around your eyes.

Additionally, never rub your eyes. Doing so frequently causes dark circles under the eyes. It can cause injury as well. Do not use harsh soaps, moisturizers, and face wash on your face.

Use an eye cream every day

If you are using only one skincare product to moisturize your face and eye area, you need to rethink this habit if you want to take better care of your eye contour.

To keep the signs of aging away from your eye area, use a good eye cream twice a day. This particular skincare product is much more effective in moisturizing the dry, fragile skin around your eyes.

It keeps the eye area hydrated, thus reducing the signs of aging, which include fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and dark spots.

Protect your eyes from the sun

Before going outdoors, whether you’re wearing makeup or not, apply eye cream with SPF around your eyes to protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

Constant exposure to UV rays causes premature aging around your eyes. As such, protect this delicate area by using an eye cream with sunscreen.

Also, wear sunglasses that offer UV protection whenever you go out. Aside from making you look fashionable, this accessory will help give the skin around your eyes an extra layer of defense against the harmful UV rays.

Wear sunglasses every day, even if the day is overcast, since the sun’s rays can still pass through the clouds and harm your eyes and the eye contour area.

Regularly use eye masks

In the past, using eye masks was a must-do only after a long, wild, and sleepless night. However, keeping extras of this skincare product and wearing it regularly is highly recommended.

Eye masks are great for hydrating the skin around your eyes. Wearing them frequently also helps lighten the dark circles around the eyes.

Additionally, eye masks provide soothing effects that will help you sleep better. They can help make your eyes look less tired and puffy as well.

Be mindful of some facial expressions

When you are concentrating or under pressure, you may squint and furrow your brows more intensely than usual. You may even have the habit of repeating these facial expressions unknowingly, out of habit.

To prevent crow’s feet (the fine lines and wrinkles that form around your eyes), avoid making these facial expressions. These actions contract the eye muscles which create the lines. They can become permanent if you keep squinting and wrinkling or raising your brows.

However, this doesn’t mean that you can never move your face ever You can still make these expressions, but make sure you limit them.

Modify some sleeping practices

If you keep sleeping on your side or on your face, stop doing this as soon as possible. These positions can cause the formation of crow’s feet and even wrinkles on your face.

Learn to sleep on your back. If you are having difficulties falling asleep in this position, swap your old pillowcases with silk or satin ones. These fabrics are gentler and softer on the skin and do not make any mark on the face.

Additionally, prop up your head a bit when sleeping by using two pillows instead of one. The additional elevation will help prevent the collection of fluids under your eyes which can cause dark circles and puffiness.

Have a healthier lifestyle

Lastly, make some changes in your daily routine to keep the signs of aging away from your eye area, your face, and your body.

Start by getting more quality sleep every night. An extra hour or two of sleep will help you have healthy, younger-looking skin, including the area around your eyes. The additional snooze time will give your body and your skin more time to rejuvenate and renew itself.

Work out more often as well to improve your body’s blood circulation. Additionally, when you exercise, you get to sweat the toxins out. This will give your skin, including your face, a more youthful glow.

Moreover, have a healthy, balanced diet. Eat more foods rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and potassium. These nutrients keep the skin healthy and fight off the signs of aging, including wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.

Finally, stay hydrated. Try to drink eight glasses of water per day. By doing so, you will keep your skin hydrated and healthy, helping it avoid the effects of premature aging.

Don’t forget to visit your dermatologist regularly and get the right skincare services when advised so that you will protect your eye area better and continue to have youthful, healthy skin regardless of your age.
